# ShelfKeeper

> ShelfKeeper is a free Android app that keeps track of the food and other stock in a household. Scan a barcode, point the camera at the best-before date, and the item is saved. The app shows what goes off soon and what to buy. No account or sign-up is needed.

Who it is for: households who want to waste less food, know what is in the cupboard, keep a few days of supplies, or share one stock list between the household's phones.

Key facts:

- Platform: Android 8.0 or later. There is no iPhone version.
- Price: free, with no ads and no limit on how much you track. ShelfKeeper Plus is an optional one-off unlock (not a subscription) for sharing between phones, nutrients in Be ready, diet and nutrition warnings (vegan, vegetarian, palm oil, high sugar, salt or fat), a waste report, essentials added to the shopping list by themselves, and automatic daily backup. Exporting your stock and allergen warnings are free. Plus costs GBP 5.99 until 31 January 2027, then GBP 9.99, and has a 14-day free trial in the app.
- No account: the app works on one phone by itself, with nothing to set up.
- Offline: stock is kept on the phone, best-before dates are read by the camera on the phone, and an offline product database fills in many barcodes without a signal. Unknown barcodes are looked up on Open Food Facts.
- Privacy: no account, no ads, no analytics in the app. Stock stays on the household's own phones, and on its own server if it runs one.
- Features: scan to add, quick add, best-before date reading, expiry list and alerts, shopping list with low-stock alerts, Be ready (days of food and water), locations and categories, Stock Check.
- Optional server: a free ShelfKeeper server for a Raspberry Pi or any Linux machine gives an always-on copy of the stock, a web interface, and optional access for an AI assistant with its own key. It is not needed to use the app.
- Product data: Open Food Facts, Open Pet Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts and Open Products Facts, under the Open Database License (ODbL).
